 Transport on Koh Tao

Traveling around Koh Tao is easy. The island itself is 15 square km so walking is a great option for getting around. There are many local taxis that can take you anywhere on the island. Most taxis are 4-wheel drive so it is easy to travel over rough terrain. Rates are set, however prices are higher after hours so expect to pay more for your journey home in if traveling late at night. Most resorts also offer private taxis for their guests.

Long-tail boat taxis are located around the island. You can usually find one by simply walking along the beach. You can hire a taxi per single trip or hire one for the day.

Motor bikes are available to rent, however are only recommended for the experienced driver. Take caution when driving on the roads. There are some parts on the island where roads may be washed out due to rain and run-off. Motorbikes are expensive to repair on Koh Tao if damaged so be careful when driving. There are sadly many notorious motorcycle scams on the island too. Please ask us for advice before renting and have a good look through reviews on tripadvisor where you will see that there are clearly some stand out no go rental shops on the island.
